Sixth class 1916 commemoration
16th Mar 2023
Sixth class put on a brilliant 1916 commemoration in the hall this week. The students in sixth have been learning about the history of 1916 and they shared some of their knowledge with us.
Students dressed up as some of the protagonists of 1916, introduced themselves to us and told us what they had done during the rising. Included here were Éamonn Ceannt, James Plunkett, Éamon de Valera and Countess Markievicz.
Then the students of sixth class sang Grace, the song written about artist Grace Gifford who married Joseph Mary Plunkett in the chapel at Kilmainham Gaol just hours before he was executed by a firing squad in 1916.
Mr. Corkery and Mr. Spellacy accompanied them on guitars.
It was a very educational experience for the audience.
