We celebrated Science week in 5th class this week with two activities. On Wednesday we explored the density of different liquids and today we completed a construction project in groups.
Density of liquids:
The liquids we used were golden syrup, hand sanitiser, water, food dye, cooking oil and milk.
This is the order we poured the liquids in: Golden syrup, hand sanitiser, milk, food colouring mixed with water, vegetable oil.
After we left the liquids stand for a while , they sorted themselves into an order with dense at the bottom and least densest at the top.
Marshmallow construction project
This project was done in groups. Each group was supplied with 20 sticks of spaghetti, 1 m of string, 1 m of masking tape and a marshmallow.
The groups had to build the tallest , free-standing structure they could manage.
