Ms Whelan’s 6th Join Beach Campaign
Ms Whelan’s 6th class were chosen to represent St. Marnock’s with a trip to the beach on Friday.
Fingal County Council were launching their Shore to Sea Campaign and had invited us to join. The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness regarding litter and gullies by spray painting DON’T LITTER THE SEA around the gullies of Portmarnock.
We heard a few words from Mayor of Fingal, Brian McDonagh, Cllr Joan Hopkins, members of Portmarnock Tidy Towns and our very own Quinn McManus and then we got to help spray paint around a drain gully to remind people not to leave their litter there.
We brought litter pickers with us and along the walk we did our best to collect as much as possible. We were shocked at the amount of cigarette butts we came across on one stretch of path and decided to count our collection- 186 in total. We hope that this Shore to Sea campaign raises awareness of the damage created by litter in our sea and encourages people to be more responsible with their rubbish.
