Dancing Raisins Science Experiment

12th Nov 2020

Our class carried out an experiment for Science Week and we made raisins dance!

We used raisins, 7UP and a clear glass.  We learned about buoyancy and density.  We observed that carbon dioxide bubbles attach to the raisins’ wrinkled surface and make them buoyant (float up) because they are less dense than the fizzy drink.  When the raisins get to the surface of the liquid the carbon dioxide bubbles surrounding the raisins pop and the raisins fall down again.  It looks like the raisins are dancing!
